Senate Advances Trump Budget Reduction Plan
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the United States Senate approved the initial stage of a $9 billion budget cut proposal supported by President Donald Trump.
The decisive vote came from Vice President JD Vance, who broke a 50-50 tie by voting in favor of the measure.
With a final tally of 51-50, the legislation moves forward and includes significant reductions in international assistance and government support for public media.
Notably, Republican Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Mitch McConnell sided with the Democrats in voting against the proposal.
The legislation now enters a phase of up to 10 hours of discussion and additional procedural steps prior to a conclusive vote.
If ultimately approved, the bill must be sent back to the House of Representatives before the deadline on Friday.
