Monsoon Downpours in India Leave Over One Hundred Dead
The Emergency Operations Center reported that 104 people have died, with at least 189 injured and 35 still unaccounted for, following weeks of intense rainfall across Himachal Pradesh.
Of the fatalities, 15 were caused by sudden cloudbursts, eight by flash floods, while the remaining victims succumbed to incidents such as drowning and road mishaps.
India’s monsoon season typically starts in June and lasts through September.
The Emergency Center also disclosed that the severe weather resulted in the deaths of approximately 22,690 livestock and poultry.
With widespread destruction affecting the region, the state government has reached out to the federal authorities for emergency support.
“We have demanded a special relief package for the state,” stated Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu after his meeting with Indian Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Tuesday.
