Egypt Supports Global Call for Gaza Ceasefire
In an official release, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry affirmed its “full support” for the international appeal, which also censured Israeli actions in Gaza and the hindrance of aid reaching civilians in need.
The Egyptian government aligned itself with the statement’s dismissal of plans to move Palestinians to a so-called “humanitarian city,” restating its firm opposition to any efforts aimed at forcibly relocating Gaza’s inhabitants. Such initiatives were labeled a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law.”
Earlier in July, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced he had ordered the military to devise a strategy for relocating all Palestinians to what he referred to as a “humanitarian city” constructed on the ruins of Rafah in southern Gaza.
Additionally, the ministry praised the denunciation of Israeli settlement growth in the occupied West Bank and the violent acts perpetrated by unauthorized Israeli settlers.
Egypt reiterated its dedication to ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza, collaborating closely with Qatar and the United States.
Finally, the Foreign Ministry called on the global community to advance concrete measures aimed at realizing a two-state resolution, which includes the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital.
