Bulgaria Strengthens Airspace Defense in Response to NATO Efforts
"We are closely monitoring the situation, and there is a protocol that must be followed. We must also ensure the safety of civil aviation," Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov told the press during the inauguration of the final segment of the Europe Motorway.
Zhelyazkov confirmed that Bulgaria remains vigilant over potential threats in the Black Sea area.
"I also believe that the Russian Federation will proceed with great caution and avoid the possibility of incidents in the Black Sea, where air traffic is extremely intense," he noted.
The prime minister emphasized that Bulgaria’s enhanced surveillance efforts align with its NATO obligations, underscoring the country's preparedness to act should an incident occur.
He characterized recent Russian drone activities as “provocations,” aimed at testing the alliance’s readiness. "They are not offensive in nature, but regardless, every provocation must be responded to appropriately," he concluded.
