Israeli Airstrikes Kill 14-Year-Old Palestinian Footballer with 14 Family Members

(MENAFN) The Palestinian Football Association confirmed Monday that Mohammed Ramez Al-Sultan, a 14-year-old player for Al-Hilal, was killed alongside 14 family members in an Israeli airstrike targeting their home in northern Gaza City.

According to the association’s statement, Israeli forces struck the family’s house in the Al-Tuwam area last Friday, resulting in the death of Al-Sultan.

Al-Hilal Club posted on Facebook that Al-Sultan was “one of the graduates of the club’s academy accredited by FIFA” and was killed together with his father and other relatives, joining the ranks of teammate Malik Abu Al-Amaren.

On September 6, Abu Al-Amaren, a youth player for Al-Hilal, was shot dead by Israeli forces while waiting for humanitarian aid in northern Gaza.

The deaths of Al-Sultan and his family occur amid ongoing Israeli attacks that have devastated Palestinian families in Gaza, claiming the lives of athletes, journalists, doctors, and students—part of a broader conflict impacting all sectors of society.

On August 26, Jibril Rajoub, president of the Palestinian Football Association, described Palestinian sports as facing an “unprecedented catastrophe” after losing 774 members of its community due to Israel’s war.

Rajoub detailed that the fatalities included 355 football players, 277 athletes from other sports, 142 scouts, and 119 missing persons. Additionally, 15 sports journalists were killed, and 288 sports facilities in the West Bank and Gaza were either fully or partially destroyed.

Since October 2023, Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza has claimed nearly 65,000 Palestinian lives and left the territory in ruins amid a looming famine.
