Syrian army detains eight tied to former Baath regime near PKK/YPG areas
According to a statement from the Syrian Defense Ministry’s Media and Communications Directorate, published by state-run SANA news agency, the arrests occurred near Deir Hafir in Aleppo governorate.
Since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Syria’s new administration has implemented a series of economic and political reforms aimed at improving conditions nationwide. Assad, who led the country for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia following his removal, bringing an end to the Baath Party’s rule that had lasted since 1963.
A transitional government, headed by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, was established in January 2025 to oversee the country’s reform process.
