S. Korea Witnesses Increase in Employment Figures

(MENAFN) South Korea's employment figures extended their winning streak to 13 consecutive months Wednesday, propelled by surging job creation among senior workers, government data revealed.

The Ministry of Data and Statistics reported that 27,986,000 individuals aged 15 and above held employment in January—representing a 108,000-person increase, or 0.4 percent expansion, compared to the prior-year period. The upward trajectory has persisted since January 2025.

Senior citizens powered the nation's employment expansion. Workers aged 60 and above accounted for 141,000 new positions in January on an annual comparison basis, while those in their 30s and 50s contributed 101,000 and 45,000 additional jobs respectively.

Younger demographics experienced contraction. Employment among workers in their 20s plummeted by 199,000, while the 40-something cohort shed 3,000 positions.
