US Claims Destruction of Iranian Boats Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated that American forces have destroyed seven Iranian “small boats,” describing them as fast-moving vessels, according to his remarks posted on Truth Social.

"We’ve shot down seven small Boats or, as they like to call them, “fast” Boats,"

He also added that, at present, there has been no disruption affecting navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Separately, US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Adm. Brad Cooper told reporters during a phone briefing that six small boats attempting to interfere with commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz were neutralized.

In parallel, US military activity in the Gulf has intensified, with Navy guided-missile destroyers operating in the region following passage through the Strait as part of what officials described as “Project Freedom,” aimed at securing commercial maritime routes.

According to CENTCOM, hostile actions reportedly included missile fire and drone launches targeting both US naval vessels and commercial ships. US forces stated they responded by defending themselves and commercial traffic, with helicopters engaging and sinking the approaching small boats.

Cooper also issued a warning directed at Tehran, urging it to avoid targeting US military assets.

However, Iranian military sources rejected these claims, dismissing reports of attacks on or losses of Iranian vessels as false.

The situation unfolds amid continued tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping corridor that has seen repeated security incidents involving military and commercial maritime activity, according to reports.
