Iran, US Exchange Messages as Talks Drift Toward Possible “Final Formula”

(MENAFN) Iran and the United States are currently reviewing messages exchanged through indirect channels and working toward what Tehran describes as a “final formula” for a possible understanding, according to reports.

Abbas Araghchi said in an interview, as reported, that there is no formal negotiating framework in place at present, although communication between the two sides has not been cut off.

“There is currently no negotiation mechanism in place, but messages are being exchanged with the Americans,” Araghchi said.

He added that while contacts remain open, the process has not produced tangible progress so far.

“Our contact with the Americans has not been cut off, but no progress has been achieved in the negotiations,” he added.

According to Araghchi, both sides are now reviewing the exchanged texts in an effort to shape a potential “final formula.” He stressed that any return to structured talks would depend on ensuring Iran’s demands are met and what he described as ending broader regional conflict dynamics involving Iran, Lebanon, and its allies.

“Any return to negotiations will be based on securing the rights of the Iranian people and ending the war against Iran, Lebanon and the region,” he said.

He further linked any future agreement to developments in Lebanon, arguing that regional conflicts are interconnected and cannot be separated.

“The fate of the war between Iran and the American-Zionist side is inseparable from the fate of the battle in Lebanon,” he said, adding that Iran had pushed for ceasefire arrangements to include all fronts, including Lebanon.

Araghchi also said he personally raised the issue with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during ceasefire discussions, requesting that Lebanon be explicitly included in any provisions addressing a broader halt to hostilities.
