Egypt Denounces Israeli Raids in Syria, Demands Pullout
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned what it called continuing Israeli breaches of Syrian sovereignty. These include renewed excavation and military construction in the countryside of Quneitra and raids into other parts of southern Syria.
Cairo also rejected Israeli moves aimed at “imposing a new reality on the ground” in Syria. The ministry said the measures constitute “a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, international law and the 1974 disengagement agreement.”
Egypt underscored the need to uphold Syria's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and urged Israel to pull its troops out of occupied Syrian land.
The statement follows fresh activity on the ground. Israel resumed excavation on Sunday under the “Sufa 53” project in southern Quneitra, and on Saturday Israeli forces entered the villages of Saida al-Golan and Abdin in western Daraa countryside.
The initiative, also called the “Great Storm,” was launched by Israel in mid-2022 near Hader in northern Quneitra and later extended to other parts of the province. Local residents have previously reported that the expansion has left thousands of acres of farmland unusable for cultivation and grazing, disrupted water flows and altered the natural landscape.
Israel has stepped up its military presence in Syria since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime on Dec. 8, 2024. Its forces have moved into the demilitarized buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights and nearby positions.
Syria has demanded that Israeli forces leave the territory they hold and has reaffirmed its commitment to the 1974 disengagement agreement. Israel maintains that its operations are driven by security concerns.
