Israeli Forces Launch New Raid in Syria’s Quneitra

(MENAFN) Israeli forces carried out a new military raid in Syria’s southern Quneitra province on Tuesday morning, advancing into an area near the village of Al-Muallaqa, according to reports.

Two Israeli tanks, accompanied by a group of soldiers, reportedly moved into Tal al-Duriyat in the southern Quneitra countryside during the operation.

No immediate information was available on whether the raid resulted in arrests, injuries or other casualties.

The latest incursion came a day after Israeli forces killed a man in southern Syria on Monday. Israeli authorities said the man had attempted to enter a military position located within what they described as a “security area.”

Israel has expanded its military presence and operations inside Syrian territory since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government on Dec. 8, 2024. Israeli forces have moved into parts of the demilitarized buffer zone near the occupied Golan Heights while also establishing positions in surrounding areas.

The developments have increased tensions along the Syrian-Israeli frontier and prompted repeated demands from Damascus for an Israeli withdrawal from areas occupied by its forces.

The Syrian government has also reaffirmed its commitment to the 1974 disengagement agreement, which established arrangements governing the military presence along the separation line.

Israel, meanwhile, has maintained that its military activities in southern Syria are motivated by security concerns and are intended to prevent threats from reaching areas under its control.

The continued incursions have added to uncertainty along the border as Syria seeks to reassert control over its territory following the political changes that followed the fall of Assad’s regime.
